Pepys admired Stillingfleet, noting, when he heard him preach at Whitehall on 25 April 1885, that “he did make a most plain, honest, good, grave sermon, in the most unconcerned and easy, yet substantial manner that ever I heard in my life.”

He paid rates from 1679 as Dean of St Pauls, and in 1689 as Bishop of Worcester, though whether for a house or just land is not clear. His assessment for the combined years 1679 and 1680 was only exceeded by Lady Berkeley at Twickenham Park, and Lord Belasyse  at Whitton. 

 Other “great” houses in Twickenham are accounted for at this time except Fulwell Lodge (later Fulwell Park) whose ownership at that time is obscure.

Another candidate is the property later known as Heatham House, its land shown divided by the Crane River on Moses Glover’s map of 1635 and owned then by Richard Corbett (1582-1635), Bishop of Norwich.
